We’ve all heard of kegels, but they aren’t the only exercise you can practice to improve your sex life. Sex uses a lot of muscles, some of which you may not use frequently. Adding a few new moves to your exercise regimen may result not only in more toned muscles, but in a better time in the bedroom.
Particularly if you like to be on top in the missionary position, you’re going to use a lot of upper body strength. Push-ups are a go-to exercise for building arm and shoulder strength, and they also help you to strengthen your core. To add some variety to your workout, try bowing pushups (also called Hindu pushups). These involve alternating between the downward-facing dog and cobra pose, if you’re familiar with yoga. Check out a how-to here.
Core strength is super important for great sex. To strengthen your core, with a particular focus on your glutes and hip muscles, try glute bridges. To do this exercise, lay on the floor with your knees bent and your arms straight at your sides. Pushing from your heels, lift your hips until you create a straight line from your shoulders to your knees. Slowly bring yourself back to the ground, and then start again.
Your leg muscles are going to be important for support (especially if you’re trying any kind of standing position), and it’s also important to have flexibility in your legs and hips to get all the right angles. Lunges help you to build both strength and flexibility. Instead of forward lunges, opt for side-to-side lunges. Go as low as you safely can to boost flexibility, and you can add weights for added muscle building if you want.
Incorporating these workouts into your fitness routine will help to make your sex life even better! Make sure you don’t forget cardio while you’re at it; sex is definitely going to get your heart rate up and breathing going, and cardio is your best preparation for that.
